What Does a Heart for Repentance in a Church Look Like? -

How should a church be working to reform itself according to Scripture?

Gary Powers explains in this video that when a church begins the process of reformation, they begin to examine different aspects of the church service. They ask questions such as: “Does this align with Scripture?” “Why are we doing this?” Sometimes, the things we do within the church are done merely because of tradition without contemplating whether they are in accord with Scripture.

There are basically two positions that we can take in regards to reformation. One position would put your preferences and desires first and demand that Scripture follow suit. The other position involves humbling yourself and submitting to the will of God found in Scripture.

1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NKJV) – “For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.”
