Cultivating Wisdom and Repentance in the Home - Kevin Swanson

How does a Christian family cultivate wisdom and repentance within the home?

Kevin Swanson explains in this video that pastors need to encourage fathers and mothers to go back to the foundations and to teach their children that the beginning of wisdom is the fear of God. One of the biggest problems today is that few people fear God.

This is where the Christian family needs to look to. We need the fear of God. It is the beginning of salvation, of knowledge, and to understand what it is to be a man or woman of God. It can get easy to get caught up in trivial matters. Fathers must lead the way and set an example of looking to Scripture and fearing God.

Proverbs 1:7 (NKJV) – “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

Understanding the Enormity of God’s Grace - Dr. Joel Beeke

How do you understand the enormity of God's grace?

Joel Beeke shares in this video that there was a medieval theologian who wrote a book about the Atonement that explains how great sin is and how great grace is. T see the enormity of grace, you must see the enormity of your sin.

As pastors, we need to preach the enormity of sin so that our congregation and run to Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. Both issues deserve equal attention. For instance, pastors should not overly emphasize the goodness and grace of God while neglecting to preach about the sinfulness of sin.

Romans 6:1-4 (NKJV) – “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we who died to sin live any longer in it? Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Characteristics of False Repentance - Paul Carrington

What does false repentance look like?

Paul Carrington explains in this video that false repentance exists when people are merely looking to find an “easy fix” to change some aspect of their life but whose affections and whose heart has not been changed. They do not truly love Christ.

Before long, you will see that they have not truly repented for their sin. They may attend church or recite verses, but their heart has not been changed and they do not want to part with their sins.

James 1:23-25 (NKJV) – “For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.”

How Reformation Happens in a Church - Dennis Gundersen

What does reformation look like in a church today?

Dennis Gunderson explains in this video that churches need to be serious about identifying areas in church life where they've been negligent or unfaithful to the Word of God. It takes honesty and close examination of church practices, policy, leadership, direction, and history.

Elders must ask themselves what realm of church life have they failed in and where they need to make immediate changes. Leaders must understand that it is going to take time to make changes but they still need to resolve that it will take place.

Galatians 6:3-5 (NKJV) – “For if anyone thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let each one examine his own work, and then he will have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another. For each one shall bear his own load.”
